Michel Johner was born in 1956 in Puy-En-Velay, in the Auvergne, and moved to the French Riviera in 1983.
His career as a photographer began at the Cannes Film Festival in 1985, and his first photographs from this world famous event were sold to the Reuters and AP news agencies.
In 1990, he traveled as a photo-journalist to Romania for “Médecins du Monde”. Such was the impact of the sometimes shocking photographs he brought back from that country, that they were quickly bought by a number of Parisian photographic agencies on his return.
In 1992 he hit the big time, joining the world's leading showbusiness photographers on the red carpet of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. From that moment on he became a part of the life of the South coast of France, documenting through his photography the celebrities, the events, and the way of Life. Today his work from the Cannes Film Festival is in demand by magazines,
press agencies, trade shows and festivals the world over, as well as by local authorities and regional press.
Michel's private passion is to photograph the Jazz greats who perform yearin, year-out, at the famous Riviera jazz festivals in Antibes and Nice.
In 2007, the photographs he took during the Cannes Film Festival were exhibited at the “Transphotographic European Meeting” in Lille, northem France. These images now form a part of the town's photographic archive.
