Hervé Loilier

Hervé Loilier was born in Paris on March 18, 1948.
Former student of the École polytechnique (class of 1967),
Former student of the ENSAD (1970/1971 Röhner workshop)
Attended the Académie libre de la Grande Chaumière (1972/1973 Pierre Jérôme workshop)
He taught art at the École Polytechnique from 1973 to 2012:
Lecturer from 1973 to 2000
Associate Professor from 2000 to 2012
Vice-president of the Humanities and Social Sciences department and responsible for teaching the arts from 1990 to 2010.
He created a lecture course in art history in 1989.

President of the Salon Violet from 1994 to 1997, he has been honorary president of the same salon since 1998. He is a member of the Salon d’Automne and an associate member of the SNBA. He is head of the “Figurative Transposition” group at the Comparisons exhibition. President 2007 of the Meetings of Contemporary Art of Calvi.

Many prizes and medals have rewarded his work.

Since 1990, he has been guest of honor at some forty exhibitions.

MONUMENTAL WORKS :

Loilier has created several monumental works including:

  • two paintings for the car-ferry “Champs-Élysées” ( 6,5m x 2m each ),
  • a painting (6m x 2m) for the house of the polytechnicians, rue de Poitiers, Paris,
  • a painting ( 6m x 2m ) for the head office of Freyssinet international,
  • a stained glass window (6m x 3m) for the bicentenary of the École Polytechnique, made in the Loire workshops in Chartres.

PUBLICATIONS

In 2000, a monograph on Loilier’s painted work was published by Editions du Léopard d’Or, 8, rue du Couédic, 75014 Paris.
In 2008, a new book, Loilier entre Orient et Occident, was published by the same publisher.
In March 2010, the magazine Univers des Arts devoted a special issue to Loilier’s work.

Éditions Ellipses has published several works by Loilier:

in 1995, Histoire de l’art. This work offers a journey from prehistory to the present day and seeks to clarify the evolution of the arts and to define the major stylistic trends. It is the result of twenty years of teaching painting and art history at the École Polytechnique
In 1996, Histoire des Arts, a manual for high school and undergraduate classes,
In 2003, History of Western Art, a complete revision of the 1995 book.
